    Colorado Central Coach #1 & #2

Pre-production images.
Colorado Central Coach #1 & #2

In August 1872, the Golden Transcript reported that the U.P. Omaha shops were "building a passenger train for the Western Division," and that one coach was now finished and "other parts of the train" were due soon.
According to another source, the 6 November issues of the Denver Daily Times and of the Golden Transcript reported coach #1 had been used for the first time two days before. It had been out-shopped by the Union Pacific the prior month.
It is widely believed that these were the first two passengers cars to be built in Colorado.

Coach #2 was received from the Union Pacific January 1873.

Whether the two coaches were actually built by the U.P. no one knows. They were more than likely knock-downs provided by some eastern builder such as Jackson and Sharp and merely assembled by the U.P. shops.

They both had 13 double pane - arched windows, oval nameplates and the typical Carter style Duck Bill roof. As built they both also used Board & Batten siding which later was changed to Plank Siding.

At the Union Pacific renumbering in 1885, coach #1 became #182 and coach #2 became #183. Both cars kept these numbers under the UPD&G.

Coach #1 was scrapped in January 1897, more than likely after being in a wreck.

Coach #2 made it to the Colorado & Southern roster and became C&S #140. It was reportedly scrapped in February of 1901, again more than likely after being in a wreck
