Colorado Central Coach #3 & #4

In September 1873, the Golden shops of the Colorado Central Railroad out-shopped the construction of a new coach. This would become Coach #3. In November of the same year, Coach #4 was also out-shopped. It is widely believed that these were the first two passengers cars to be built in Colorado. Beings that they were built so close to each other and are the same length, most consider them sister cars.

They both had 11 double pane - arched windows, oval nameplates and the typical Carter style Duck Bill roof. As built they both also used Board & Batten siding which later was changed to Plank Siding.

Coach #3 burned at Georgetown on 11 February 1880. A fate all too common to wooden passenger cars heated by coal stoves that were often over-stoked to try to heat the length of a drafty car. She was sitting at the station, having arrived with the evening train from Golden, but the hose of the firemen was too short to reach the car, so the car was rolled to meet the hose, but too late.
Later on that year, the burnt shell was moved to the Omaha shops to start the rebuild.

Coach #4 was still in-service at the Union Pacific renumbering in 1885. Coach #4 became #181, and coach #3 became #189, with the footnote, "being rebuilt at Omaha." But it apparently became the car that never returned, because when the UPD&G Receiver reassigned numbers in 1891, it didn't make the roster

Coach #4 didn't make it to the Colorado & Southern roster, being retired 4 August 1897 and was dismantled shortly afterwards.

Nothing is known about the final fate of Coach #3. Nor if she ever road the rails again.

		
This CC Coach kit was designed by David Fletcher as an extension of his Master Class on MyLargeScale.com.
Bronson-Tate was one of the original cutters for Davids kits. It is with his permission that we are able to offer this kit to the general public.

This kit is constructed out of laser cut Aircraft grade plywood and Basswood dimensional lumber. For stiffness the walls and roof are constructed from several layers of plywood.

This kit comes with detailed prototypical simple air brakes mounted to the undercarriage along with additional brake details for the Hartland trucks. The kit also comes with Sierra Valley metal wheel sets.
Also included are all the needed glazing's for the doors and clerestory windows, door hinges and knobs, all necessary end platform and body castings and a full set of decals.
The windows and passenger doors are operationable.

Interior details include cast stove kit and the necessary amount of bench seats with wooden back rest, seat and metal side frames.

Both, fully sprung cast Link & Pin couplers and cast knuckle coupler mounts, which accept all Kadee knuckle couplers, are included.
