Most pre-1880's Carter cars only had manual brakes. Around the last part of the 1860's, George Westinghouse's air brake system was gaining popularity with both car builders and railroad executives. By the mid 1880's almost all new cars came with his system installed while earlier cars were rapidly being converted. Very few documents let alone images, remain that deal with or show Air Brakes on Carter Pass. Cars. Our air brake kit is based off of known practices by the Carter Co.. The kit is designed to mount on the frame rails on the BTAM kits. They can be adapted to fit beneath Ricks, styrene version.
